5 out of 5 stars You can't get any easier than Turbo Tax!   January 26, 2009

I bought Turbo Tax after the lady who did our taxes last year ripped us off. I decided to try doing our taxes on my own after hearing about Turbo Tax.

This program is extremely user friendly, anyone can figure it out. It guides you through your taxes, step by step. As you enter your information in it shows you at the top what your Federal and State returns will be. It helps you think of every deduction possible and will even import your forms for you if they are available online!

The best part about the program is at the end it checks your work for errors and then rechecks them. You can then E-file and it sends you a confirmation to your E-mail that your taxes have been sent to the IRS. It will also send you an E-Mail confirmation once the IRS has accepted your taxes (it didn't even take 24 hours for mine to be accepted) and they will also tell you the exact date you can expect your refund. We chose to have our refund direct deposited into our account. Seriously, how much simpler could it be?

I LOVE this program. I was able to do my taxes without ever even leaving the house. It also really helps you understand the entire tax process as it guides you through. If you have questions you can submit them or search for them right there in the program.

The cons to this program are: It only allows you to download one state for free, so if you or your husband/wife worked in a different state you have to pay to download the second state. My husband lived in Ohio the first part of the year so it cost us: 39.95 plus tax to purchase the second state.

Also, it only allows you to E-File your Federal return for free. You have to pay 19.95 for each State tax you want to file. So for me, the program was somewhere around $50, then I had to download Ohio which was $40, then I had to pay $20 twice to E-File my state taxes. However, someone did tell me you can get the forms from the state and send them in for free verses paying for them via Turbo Tax. I thought it was just easier to do it all together.

Despite the hidden costs I would still recommend this program. It is simple, user friendly and a piece of cake.

5 out of 5 stars BEST TAX SOFTWARE AVAILABLE!   January 25, 2009

I've considered TT to be the BEST personal tax return preparation software available anywhere - - for more than 20 years. Using the Forms mode is Fast and Efficient! However, new tax preparers may want to use the Interview mode which takes longer - - buttt is also Excellent...

TT management made a major misjudgment that upset many users - - when they implemented pay to print, for more than one Tax Return In TT 2008. But, the resulting backlash from users, caused Intuit to promptly eliminate the pay to print scheme in the first TT software update.

Recommend buying TT Deluxe (with/state if needed) from Amazon each year. It supports essentially the same Forms that TT Premier and Home & Business versions do. I consider the added guidance provided in TT Premier & Home and Business editions to be a waste of money.

Users that want/need more guidance to prepare their Returns should consider buying J.K. Lasser's Your Income Tax book from Amazon - as I do.
J.K. Lasser's Your Income Tax 2009: For Preparing Your 2008 Tax Return

I bought / tried TaxCut 2008 this year. But compared to TT, I found TaxCut to be cumbersome & inefficient to use - - and returned it for a refund.

5 out of 5 stars No Problem Here with Schedule D   January 3, 2009

Where is this notion coming from that TurboTax 2008 Deluxe does not include Schedule D?

I have just started my return, but so far have had no trouble accessing Schedule D. All you get is a suggestion to upgrade to Premier for additional help with investments, but you can decline and proceed with Deluxe.

At the TurboTax website below, click the "Included Forms" link to verify that Schedule D is definitely there.

I have been a very satisfied user since 1994, so for now will continue to give the product five stars. Yes the retail price is steep this year, but considering the much lower Amazon price and the $10 future credit I can hardly complain.

I guess I am the lone ranger here, but I am glad Amazon "removed" reviews that complained about a fee that is no longer charged. I wish they would remove the same complaints here. I very much agree with those who complained about TT charging for additional copies of the return. Outrageous!!! But Turbo Tax has changed that policy and now allows additional copies at no charge. So now I don't want to read hundreds of reviews complaining about a situation that no longer exists. I am bored out of my mind skimming through complaints that are not pertinent. I want and need to know how the program handles taxes. A more valid complaint is the question about schedules C, D, and E. It's too bad that TT has apparently allowed context driven menus to create a confusing situation. That is their error. But thankfully some users have pointed out that the schedules are in fact included and have offered the info as to how to access them. Now that is helpful! But come on folks, please don't make me page through hundreds of complaints about a problem that no longer exists.

5 out of 5 stars Still Loyal - They upgraded me for free   January 24, 2009

I started a chat session with TurboTax support to verify that schedule C and D were dropped from the Deluxe version. They confirmed it had been, but then offered me the Home and Business edition at no additional cost after I told them they had lost another loyal customer. I sure didn't want to change to another tax application after using TurboTax for years.
Intuit's customer service was great and the software is working as good as prior years. I have never been audited so I think TurboTax is one of the best tax software's out there. I hope they take heed of the customer feedback and put back schedule C and D next year.

Thanks to all the reviews who pointed out this years problems. I was very close to switching to Tax Act this year.

Edit:
Just found this on the Amazon forums. I don't know why the customer service rep told me something else?

Maynard... TurboTax Deluxe is fine for you. Contrary to what others are saying here and what our agent may have told you (I apologize if they got it wrong), Deluxe handles Schedule C and D transactions without any problem (and no change from last year). Given that you are a real estate agent, I suggest you go with TurboTax Deluxe.
